✨New Season, New Money Story: How to Create a Fresh Start With Your Money 🌻

There’s something about September that feels like a fresh start.

After a cold winter, there’s a definite lift in the air. The days are getting longer, the sun feels a warmer and suddenly there are new leaves appearing, flowers popping up and signs of life everywhere you look.

Spring has a freshness about it. A sense of newness.

As the song goes, “It’s a new dawn. It’s a new day. It’s a new life…” And I’m rather liking that idea.

Not necessarily “Right, let’s reinvent ourselves completely!” More a feeling of, “Okay, what’s possible from here?”

And perhaps your money could use a little of that fresh energy too.

A new beginning with money doesn’t mean starting again from scratch. You don’t need a perfect budget or one enormous financial decision that changes everything.

Sometimes we make money far more complicated than it needs to be.

Money Is Rarely Just About Money

I recently worked with a woman who realised she had always associated wealthy people with being greedy.

On the surface, she wanted to have more money. But underneath that desire was a belief that having too much money said something not particularly nice about the person who had it.

Another client, a wellness practitioner, was reluctant to increase her prices. Her business was doing well and her clients valued what she offered, but somewhere along the way she had picked up the idea that wanting more money wasn’t particularly spiritual.

Then there was the client who told me she had to get her budget perfect before she could really get on top of her money.

And another who questioned why she should worry about financial security when there was so much poverty in the world.

Different women. Different circumstances. But underneath each conversation was something very familiar.

Money is rarely just about money.  It’s about how we think, how we feel, what we believe and what we have learned along the way.

The thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes that influence how we relate to money and make financial decisions.

And that is why I always come back to my three elements:

Money EQ.
Money IQ.
Money Blocks.......... In that order.

Money EQ - How Do You Feel About Money?

Money EQ is our emotional relationship with money. Because money itself isn’t emotional.

We are.

Sometimes those feelings are so familiar that we don’t even realise they’re influencing our decisions. If your brain has learned that wealth = greed, you can imagine how difficult it might be to comfortably create wealth for yourself.

Or take the wellness practitioner who felt uncomfortable charging more. Her issue wasn’t really about pricing. It was about what more money meant to her.

This is where awareness becomes powerful.  Rather than judging ourselves for how we feel about money, we can become curious:

»        Why does this make me uncomfortable?

»        What have I been taught about people who have money?

»        What does having more money mean to me?

Because feelings aren’t facts.

Feeling worried about money doesn’t mean you’re failing. It may simply mean something needs your attention. Once you notice it, you have a choice.

That’s Money EQ. It’s about becoming aware of your emotions so you get to choose what happens next.

And that awareness is an important part of financial wellbeing,  not simply how much money you have, but how confident and capable you feel making financial decisions and whether your money supports the life you want to live.

Money IQ - Knowing What To Do

Then there’s Money IQ the practical side of money. Knowing your numbers. Understanding how money works. Knowing what you have, where it’s going and what choices are available to you.

And this is where I often hear: “I have to get this budget perfect.”  Or similar excuses.

But here’s the thing.  A budget doesn’t have to be perfect to be useful. It simply needs to help you make better choices.

And that starts with noticing the small leaks,  the subscription you forgot about, the little purchases that don’t seem to matter, the money that disappears because you haven’t stopped to ask whether you’re still choosing it. This isn’t about cutting out everything enjoyable.

Money is there to support your life.

Ask yourself:  “Is this still important to me?”

Because when your spending reflects what matters to you, your money can start working with you rather than against you.

Awareness creates choice. And money also rewards time.

Compound growth doesn’t require you to start with a fortune. It requires time and consistency.

So if you’ve been thinking, “I’ll start when I have more money,” perhaps this is your September nudge:

Start where you are. It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to start. A small amount invested consistently can have time to grow. A small improvement in your spending can become a habit. A little more knowledge can lead to a much better financial decision.

That’s financial wellbeing too,  making informed choices that gradually give you more confidence, options and control.

Money Blocks - The Stories We Carry

And then we get to Money Blocks. Sometimes we know what to do. We even know how to do it.  But something inside us says:

“Yes, but…”

One client said something that really stayed with me:

“Why should I worry about financial security when there are people living in poverty all over the world?”

On the surface, it sounds very compassionate. And it is. But underneath was another question:

Was she allowed to have financial security when other people didn’t? That’s a very different question. Sometimes our Money Blocks disguise themselves as perfectly reasonable thoughts.

We can call it being practical.  And sometimes it is. But sometimes it’s an old belief running the show.

We all have a money story shaped by what we saw, heard and experienced.

Perhaps money was something your family worried about. Perhaps talking about money was uncomfortable. Perhaps you learned that wanting more was selfish, that people with money couldn’t be trusted, or that money was simply not for people like you.

These stories don’t make you wrong. They make you human.

But they are worth examining.

This is exactly why I created the Money Makeover Program™ to uncover your strengths, level of financial knowledge,  blind spots and the what's the next step? The fabulous outcome from going through the program is virtually your personal  Money Story Audit™

Your money story explains your past. It doesn’t have to become your future.

And here’s where I love the idea of the mind as a magnificent search engine.

Our thoughts, words, beliefs, feelings and actions are constantly giving our brain prompts about what to look for.

If the prompt is “People with money are greedy,” your brain will happily find evidence.

But we can change the prompt.

What if having money allowed me to make more choices?

What if financial security gave me more capacity to contribute?

What if charging appropriately for my work allowed me to do more of it?

What if having money isn’t a measure of my worth or my goodness?

Now we’re getting somewhere.

A New Beginning Doesn’t Mean Starting Over

You start with awareness; notice how you feel about money. look at your numbers. Question the story.

Then make one small different choice.

☑️ Review one subscription.

☑️ Finally look at your numbers.

☑️ Increase your price.

☑️ Start investing that small amount you’ve been putting off.

☑️ Question a belief you’ve carried for years.

☑️ Stop waiting for perfect.

Because progress beats perfect. Every time.

Your financial future isn’t created by one massive moment. It’s built through the small choices you make again and again.

So perhaps this September isn’t about reinventing your financial life.

Perhaps it’s simply about asking:

“What could I do differently from here?” One thought. One choice. One conversation. One small action.

That’s enough to begin.

It grows.

Just like Spring.

And perhaps this is your new dawn, your new day, your new money story.

What if you did money differently this Spring?

A Few Questions You Might Be Asking

What is a money mindset?

A money mindset is the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes that influence how we relate to money and the financial decisions we make.

What is financial wellbeing?

Financial wellbeing isn’t simply about how much money you have. It’s about having the understanding, confidence and choice to make financial decisions that support the life you want to live.

What are Money EQ, Money IQ and Money Blocks?

I’m known for bringing these three elements together: Money EQ, Money IQ and Money Blocks. My methodology recognises that knowing what to do with money is only part of the picture. We also need to understand our emotional relationship with money and uncover the beliefs and stories that can influence our financial decisions.

Can I change my money mindset?

Yes. You created these beliefs, which means you can un-create them. Once you become aware of the beliefs and stories influencing your relationship with money, you can question them, choose differently and create new beliefs that support the life and financial future you want.

Change your Money Story… Change your life.

Much love,

Jan 🐚
