Financial Freedom Isn’t About Luck ✨ It’s About Choice

A December Reflection for Women Ready to Rewrite Their Money Story

December has a way of slowing us down.
Not because life becomes quieter, but because we begin listening to our thoughts, our fears, our hopes, our patterns, and the stories we carry silently into the next year.

For many women I work with, women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond [and some men], this time of year stirs familiar questions:

“Am I where I thought I’d be?”
“Is it too late for me?”
“Would I feel more secure if I had a partner, a better start, more support, or a perfect financial record?”

These are honest questions.
Human questions.
But they’re built on a myth society handed us long ago. Let’s put that myth to rest before we close the year:

Financial freedom isn’t handed out by luck.

It’s built through choice.

Not grand choices.
Not perfect choices.
But small, consistent, self-aligned choices made by a woman who is learning to trust herself again.

And that, in many ways, mirrors my own journey.

My Turning Point This Year: Being Before Doing

This past year has been one of the biggest expansions of my life, not because things became easier, but because things became clearer.

There was a moment in a self-hypnosis session (yes, therapists need healing too!) that changed my perception and focus.

I asked the question:
“What do I need to know? What do I need to do?”

And the answer came back, loud and uncompromising:
“Wrong question.”

At first, I didn’t understand. But like a dog with a bone, the mind kept circling back to those two words.

And then the ah-ha moment!

It’s not about what I need to know or do.

It’s about who I need to be.

Deal with the inside, the beliefs, the fears, the identity, and everything on the outside will unfold as it is meant to.

That single realisation became the momentum behind my work, my message, and my purpose. It affirmed what I had witnessed for years:

Financial transformation is never just about money.

It begins in the mind, the emotions, the patterns, the story. When you deal with the inside, the beliefs, the identity, the fears, the wounds, the self-worth everything on the outside starts to reorganise itself, align itself.

It affirmed what I had lived, what I had learned, and what I help my clients uncover:

Financial transformation begins internally.

My life lessons weren’t obstacles, they were the genesis of momentum.
They shaped my purpose as a financial therapist and money coach, a purpose embedded in helping women heal what sits underneath their financial patterns so they can create lives anchored in confidence, security and choices.

The Myth That Holds Women Back

For generations, women have internalised the belief that financial security comes from something or someone outside of them:

  • a partner
  • a family inheritance
  • a more successful past
  • being “good with numbers”
  • never making a mistake

But those beliefs aren’t truths. They’re stories we absorbed without our knowledge or consent.

Here’s what is true:

You don’t need a perfect past to build a powerful future.

You don’t need a partner to feel secure.

You don’t need to be naturally gifted with money.

You can start right here, right now, exactly as you are.

Financial freedom is not a personality trait it is a practiced skill.
And learning that skill becomes a whole lot easier when it is paired with healing your money story.

Money IQ + Self-Trust: The Missing Link

Traditional financial advice often focuses solely on the numbers; the logic, the spreadsheets, the strategies.

Important? Absolutely!

Sufficient? Not even close!

Because women don’t struggle with information, women struggle with self-trust. So the foundation of my work is bringing together:

Money IQ — the practical literacy that creates competence
and
Money EQ — the emotional insight that builds self-trust

When these two are integrated, everything changes:

1. You make clearer decisions. Fear stops leading the way.

2. You become consistent.  Tiny steps that are do-able, and actually stick.

3. You stop repeating old patterns.  Because you’ve healed the root cause.

This is what creates lasting financial freedom and it’s available to every woman, at every stage of life.

So… Where Do You Begin This December? With something beautifully simple: One small, self-honouring choice at a time.

Here are three places to start:

1. Reflect without judgment.

Ask yourself:
“What did I learn about myself this year?”
Insight builds self-trust.

2. Create one small wealth habit.

Automatic savings.
A weekly transfer.
A small top-up to your investment or retirement fund.
Consistency creates compounding, the quiet magic of wealth.

3. Rewrite one belief that keeps you playing small.

Turn
“I’m behind”
into
“I’m beginning again, with self trust this time.”  This simple shift can open an entirely new chapter.

Your December Takeaway

You are not behind.  You are becoming.

Financial freedom is not luck, it is choice. A series of small, powerful, self-trusting choices that build real security over time.

You can rewrite your money story at any age.
Your wisdom is your wealth.
And every choice you make in your favour expands your future.

Here’s to a December of clarity, confidence, space to breathe and trusting that as you become, everything else will unfold exactly as it’s meant to.

A Christmas Message, From My Heart to Yours 🎄

As we move into Christmas, I want to offer a wish; for peace where you need it most,
for joy in the small moments, and for connection that feels warm, grounding, and true.

Whether your Christmas is full and festive, or quiet and reflective, or truly crazy…may it also bring you:

awareness of how far you’ve come
gratitude for the strength you carried
and confidence in the woman you are becoming

Much love,

Jan 💚
